ANZAC Centenary – Rememberance Day Mural

I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with the Defence families of St Brigids College on this project and designed this custom mural painting with soft, peaceful colours of the sunrise at ANZAC cove in Gallipoli, to depict the end of the World War I.  Working with the Defence children was an extremely enriching experience as they shared their individual stories whilst they painted.  Art can be such a wonderful, therapeutic exercise and everyone soon discovered their own talents creating this amazing result.   The opening ceremony was extremely touching with the bugle playing and bringing the mural to life.

After researching St Brigid and learning of her character, I took particular note of key words that described her which were Faith, Hospitality, Charity, Wisdom, Strength and Gentleness.   She was a founder of the School of the Art which I found a direct connection with. I used these key words to draw on inspiration which led to my unique design of Illumination; Nature; The Story of Her Cloak; Learning; and Light.

Reconciliation Mural

As part of their curriculum, the students of One Tree Hill Primary School studied Indigenous art work and looked at how they painted on leaves, wood carvings, rock paintings, and ceremonial art. They researched Indigenous dot paintings and also looked at European Pointillist dot paintings. From this study we looked at a way to celebrate Reconciliation Day by incorporating these art forms in a modern, contemporary style. As a local wall mural artist I was delighted to be able to facilitate this and was able to work with over 250 students from the ages of 5 to 13.

ANZAC Centenary Custom Mural

I designed this custom mural painting around the Australian Light Horse as it was significant in the local area. The head horse breaker, Duncan McKenzie, lived on the land that was donated to establish One Tree Hill Primary School. I worked with the entire school of approximately 250 students from the ages of 5 to 13 to create this heart warming art piece.  The opening ceremony really brought the painting to life as local Light Horse member Martin Hilton, kindly offered his time to be present in full uniform with his gorgeous steed.

Defence Wall Mural

I designed this painting around soft colours to depict world peace and the soldiers coming home.  What made this wall mural very personal to not just me, to alot of other families was the opportunity to work with the Father of three of the students at Hewett Primary School, who posed for photographs to give the school children a guide to paint from. Each child placed thumb prints down to create this scene with a very personal touch and ownership of their part in the mural. The Pointillist painting was created with the thumb prints of over 550 students and teachers and was truly a joy to be a part of.
